Jeremy Corbyn has decisively won control of his new party's leadership committee following a closely watched contest with fellow former Labour MP Zarah Sultana. This pivotal development marks a significant shift in the political landscape for Your Party, which has been grappling with internal divisions since its inception.
Landslide Victory for Corbyn's Camp
Supporters of the former Labour leader secured an impressive 14 of the 24 seats on Your Party's central executive committee (CEC). This represents exactly double the seven seats captured by Ms Sultana's backers, delivering a clear mandate for Corbyn's vision and leadership approach.
The election results, announced on Thursday 26 February 2026, demonstrate a remarkable turnaround from last year's developments. Your Party's adoption of a collective leadership model had previously been viewed as a victory for Ms Sultana, who championed this structure while Mr Corbyn expressed preference for a single leader model.
Moving Beyond Internal Conflicts
With this decisive outcome, Mr Corbyn is now expected to be named as the party's parliamentary leader as Your Party seeks to move beyond the infighting that has plagued its foundation period. The election saw substantial participation, with 25,347 of Your Party's 40,985 verified members casting their votes.
Both Mr Corbyn and Ms Sultana were elected to the CEC through this process, along with former Labour MP Laura Smith, who served on Mr Corbyn's shadow front bench in 2018. Notably, Independent Alliance MPs Shockat Adam and Ayoub Khan failed to secure seats in the election.
Corbyn's Vision for the Future
In a statement following the results, Mr Corbyn declared that party members had endorsed "a mass, socialist party that takes the fight to Starmer and Farage." He emphasized the importance of this moment, stating: "Now, the real work begins. We have a precious opportunity to unite our movement around a bold vision for this country – one that creates a more caring, equal and peaceful world for all."
The former Labour leader expressed his commitment to collaboration, adding: "I look forward to working with all members to make this vision a reality."
Independent Candidates Make Their Mark
Beyond the main factions, three candidates who had not been endorsed by either Mr Corbyn's "The Many" group or Ms Sultana's "Grassroots Left" slate managed to secure election to the committee. This suggests some diversity of thought within the party membership despite the clear victory for Corbyn's faction.
The substantial voter turnout of approximately 62% of verified members indicates strong engagement within the fledgling party as it establishes its internal structures and prepares for future political battles.
