In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail this Tuesday, comedian and prominent podcaster Adam Carolla unleashed a blistering critique of California Governor Gavin Newsom, whom he described as a "sociopathic buffoon" destined for failure in a likely 2028 presidential bid. Carolla, a long-time California resident, painted a picture of a deeply flawed politician disconnected from reality.
"He Doesn't Provide Answers, He Talks in Circles"
Carolla's animosity stems from a 2013 interview he conducted with Newsom, then the state's Lieutenant Governor. "I'm not speaking hyperbolically because I hate him and I think he's ruining our state," Carolla clarified. "He is a sociopathic guy. When you talk to him, he doesn't provide answers, he talks in circles, it's all double talk." "You know, when you interview Gavin Newsom, you go, I have no idea who this guy is. Sociopath. I don't think he knows who he is, he's a chameleon," Carolla reflected. "He'll say anything in front of anyone at any time. All the time. His story will change all the time." The interview was conducted following Carolla's performance at the Trump-Kennedy Center and ahead of his Florida shows.

Carolla also challenged Newsom's personal narrative, accusing him of falsely portraying a modest upbringing. "He grew up a rich kid. He's always been a rich kid," Carolla asserted, noting Newsom's father worked closely with the wealthy Getty family. The podcaster predicted that national scrutiny would doom Newsom's presidential ambitions once voters examined his California record. He pointed to several key failures:

"Once people start really delving into the corruption that is California, mix that with the wildfires, mix that with his atrocious record... he's not gonna go anywhere," Carolla stated bluntly. Despite his criticism, Carolla acknowledged Newsom's political savvy, noting the Governor has launched his own podcast, interviewing conservative figures like Charlie Kirk and Steve Bannon, and actively seeks media appearances. Carolla suggested Newsom has historically relied on his appearance and adaptable persona. "For some reason, dumb women or many women, not just the dumb ones, mistake whatever his look and his vibe is for being competent," he remarked.
Currently leading early 2028 Democratic primary polls, Newsom has adopted a combative stance against former President Donald Trump. However, Carolla predicted this momentum would evaporate under national examination. Interestingly, Carolla conceded that Newsom would likely progress further in the 2028 primary than former Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost to Trump in 2024.
"I don't think she's a sociopath like Gavin Newsom, but she doesn't know anything," Carolla said of Harris. "She has no policy, she flip-flops. Everything she says, she then walks back later on. She's an idiot... and I don't think America wants that loser again."
