Trump Reverses Stance on Epstein Files, Urges GOP to Vote for Release
Trump urges GOP to vote for Epstein files release

In a significant political shift, former President Donald Trump is now urging his Republican allies in Congress to vote for the release of documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case.

A Complete Reversal on Disclosure

This new stance marks a sharp reversal from his previous position. Trump had long resisted the disclosure of the Epstein files, which he previously dismissed as nothing more than a politically motivated smear campaign orchestrated by Democrats.

However, in his recent statements, the former president has declared that Republicans have 'nothing to hide'. He has characterised the ongoing controversy as a 'Democrat Hoax', suggesting it is designed to distract the public from what he describes as Republican successes.

Political Pressure and Internal Rifts

The move follows public statements from House Speaker Mike Johnson, who suggested that releasing the files would help address persistent allegations that have sought to link Donald Trump to the activities of the convicted sex offender.

The debate over the documents has not been without internal conflict. The issue has caused a visible rift with some of Trump's own allies. Notably, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has publicly criticised fellow Republicans over their handling of the matter, highlighting the divisive nature of the topic within the party.

The files are connected to the case of Ghislaine Maxwell, who was charged by Acting United States Attorney Audrey Strauss in July 2020 for her alleged role in the sexual exploitation and abuse of multiple minor girls by Jeffrey Epstein.
