Steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, 75, who lavished £28 million on his daughter’s wedding, purchased Bernie Ecclestone’s 12-bedroom London townhouse for £64 million, and donated £5 million to the Labour Party after befriending Tony Blair, has reportedly become the latest billionaire to leave Starmer’s Britain, opting for residency in Switzerland. He is said to spend considerable time in Dubai, where he acquired a ‘baroque mansion’ for £152 million in a gated community known as the ‘Beverly Hills of the Middle East’.
Fireworks Disrupt Tranquillity
Neighbours of Mittal’s 400-acre Surrey estate, Alderbrook Park, believed they had seen the last of the family, but they were dramatically mistaken. All was quiet until last Saturday evening, when rural peace was shattered by massive pyrotechnics. ‘It wasn’t a normal firework display, it was enormous,’ one local said. ‘The fireworks were like gunships. I don’t know where they got them from. They engulfed the whole Surrey landscape. My whole house shook.’
Others have expressed their frustration publicly. ‘As soon as the fireworks started, my horses cantered off,’ said an equestrian near Alderbrook. Residents two miles away in Shamley Green reported scaring animals, and on Sunday night, another thunderous display began much later, after 10pm. ‘When children have school the next day?’ wailed one parent, labelling the Mittals ‘utterly selfish!’ The noise carried further, heard in Albury Heath and Bramley, both four miles from the estate.
Apologies and Suggestions
The Mittals declined to comment, but a friend assured that efforts have been made to apologise for any ‘unintentional disruption’. ‘The last thing the family would want would be to upset residents,’ the friend added. Locals suggest, ‘Perhaps Mrs Mittal can celebrate with just a cake next year?’ believing the first night’s bangs were for wife Usha’s birthday and the second for the Hindu festival of Akshaya Tritiya.
