Megyn Kelly, the conservative political commentator, has once again taken aim at President Donald Trump, calling him 'not a moral man' and accusing him of turning on his loyal supporters. During her podcast on Wednesday, Kelly claimed that Trump struggles to accept criticism from former allies who have opposed his actions regarding the Iran conflict.
Kelly's Sharp Words
'He's not a moral man, he's not the greatest husband in the world and he's extremely petty and thin-skinned,' Kelly told her guest, Russell Brand. She further alleged that Trump is 'turning on his most loyal supporters because they don't support this war and getting in bed with people who f****** hate him and have hated him from the beginning.'
Kelly is among a growing list of former Trump supporters who have faced the president's ire after publicly opposing his military strikes on Iran. Last week, Trump called Kelly a 'Low IQ person' and said her platform was 'dying fast,' following her criticism of his aggressive rhetoric about bombing Iran and her assertion that he was 'bamboozled' into war by foreign leaders.
Other Former Allies Targeted
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, conservative podcast host Candace Owens, and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones are other prominent figures with large online followings who have also been subjected to Trump's insults for breaking with him on the war. Despite her decade-long history of skirmishes with Trump, Kelly supported him in the 2024 presidential election, praising his immigration agenda and efforts to upend transgender rights. She maintains that he was the right choice for the election, stating, 'There's still, in my view, a lot to like about Trump.'
Mixed Feelings
Kelly acknowledged that Trump is 'inspirational' and 'admirable' for rejecting the status quo and succeeding despite indictments, impeachments, and assassination attempts. However, she admitted that many supporters have chosen to overlook his negative traits. 'Many of us just like Trump, you know, we like his personality. But then, the other truth of it is that there are aspects of his personality which are obviously not good and that we've mostly just chosen to overlook,' she said.
One such quality, according to Kelly, is Trump's inability to return loyalty. 'If you have a principle disagreement with something he does, you're otherized,' she explained. Last year, Trump rescinded his endorsement of former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene after she broke with him on the Epstein files. Greene eventually resigned from Congress. More recently, Trump began insulting Carlson after the pundit criticized the president's decision to go to war. Carlson, who heavily supported Trump during the election, recently apologized for endorsing the president and 'misleading' people.
