Taylor Swift has faced backlash from some fans over the use of what they describe as 'sloppy AI' in promotional materials for her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl. The 35-year-old singer, who is enjoying a career high with a top-selling album and number one film, launched an online scavenger hunt featuring QR codes that led to 'orange doors' with video clips spelling out a cryptic phrase.
Fans, known as Swifties, noticed inconsistencies in the AI-generated visuals, sparking criticism on social media. One user said, 'Taylor has literally used AI in EVERY of these little visuals. This is literally so bad considering she's the biggest artist out there right now.' Another fan expressed disappointment, noting Swift's own battle with Scooter Braun over her masters, questioning why a billionaire who spent years defending her art would resort to AI.
Some fans highlighted specific errors, such as an image where a bar appears physically impossible to access. One critic said, 'I don't have issue with the AI usage but the sloppiness. Looks like she or her team doesn't have an eye for details.' Others argued that the use of AI reflects broader industry trends, with one fan stating, 'the future is here faster than you think.'
Swift has not yet responded to requests for comment. The controversy comes amid a period of personal and professional success for the singer, including her recent engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce.
