A shooting at a post-prom party in Indianapolis early Sunday morning left one woman dead and three others injured, according to police.
Details of the Incident
Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of gunfire on the 4000 block of North Park Avenue, near 38th Street, shortly before 1 a.m. local time, as reported by NBC affiliate 13News. Police confirmed that the shooting occurred during a large gathering of teenagers at a short-term rental property following a high school prom.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The Marion County Coroner's Office is expected to determine the cause and manner of death.
Additional Victims
Shortly after the initial response, police were notified that two additional gunshot victims had arrived at Methodist Hospital. Investigators determined that both individuals had been shot at the North Park Avenue residence. According to 13News, one of these victims remains in critical condition, while the other is listed as stable. A fourth person sustained non-firearm-related injuries while attempting to flee the scene, according to police statements provided to the outlet.
