Jeremy Clarkson fought back tears as his Hawkstone Farmers Choir was crowned winner of Britain's Got Talent on Saturday, 30 May. The Clarkson's Farm star, who formed the 34-strong choir, described the victory as 'the best thing ever' in a video posted to judge Simon Cowell's Instagram.
Clarkson admitted he was nervous before the result, saying: 'The girl at the door said, 'Oh, I'm not sure they're going to win'. The odds were drifting, and I thought, no. These guys worked so hard, it's the best thing ever, Simon, thank you for having them.' Cowell responded: 'Great winners, great finalists... thanks everyone for watching.'
The win was celebrated by co-star Kaleb Cooper, who was seen cheering wildly at The Farmer's Dog pub in Burford alongside Lisa Hogan and Charlie Ireland. Fans praised the choir, with one writing: 'This is a great day for British farmers. Not only that, but representing the best of Britain.'
Choir leader Katryna Shell said: 'We are the first ever choir to have won Britain's Got Talent. This is for all the farmers out there. For anyone who's struggling, it's not a taboo subject, speak up!' The group will receive £250,000 and perform at the Royal Variety Performance.
However, the result was met with boos from the audience when it was revealed that dance team LMA and singer Matty Juniosa missed the top three. Juniosa had been tipped as 'the one to beat' by former winner Paul Potts. Runner-up was drone show Celestial, with dog act Anastasiia and Salsa in third.
