The Metropolitan Police have launched a fresh investigation into a nurse convicted of rape, renewing appeals for potential victims to come forward. John Chukwunonso Iwuh, 54, was sentenced to 16 years in prison in July last year for raping a woman he met on the dating app Hinge, exploiting his position as a psychiatric nurse to gain her trust.
Thousands of Contacts Discovered
During the investigation, officers discovered nearly 11,000 contacts stored on Iwuh's phone, many of which were linked to women and dating applications. This has raised concerns that there may be further victims who have not yet come forward.
Additional Allegations Under Review
The Metropolitan Police are currently assessing additional reports and investigating four other allegations against Iwuh, including three for rape, with incidents dating back to 2007. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact them.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council has faced criticism for failing to suspend Iwuh sooner, which allowed him to continue working with patients for over a year while under investigation. The force is committed to ensuring justice for all potential victims.
