Former Attorney General Pam Bondi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer shortly after President Donald Trump ousted her from the Justice Department last month, according to a report. Bondi has undergone treatment and is recovering, Axios first reported, with a White House official confirming the news to The Independent.
Katie Miller, wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, posted on X Tuesday night that “Pam has been quietly kicking cancer’s ass the last few weeks.” Florida Senator Rick Scott also shared the news, calling Bondi a “dear friend” and a “fighter” in a social media tribute. Florida’s official GOP X account said it was “praying for healing and a swift recovery.”
Bondi told CNN she is still recovering and “doing well.” Trump announced her exit from the Justice Department on April 2 after 14 months as head. She was recently appointed to an advisory committee on AI policy. Vice President JD Vance said Bondi was “an enormously valuable asset” and would continue working with the administration.
Bondi will sit on the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, alongside Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Nvidia co-founder Jensen Huang. Her role will be “facilitating coordination” between the administration and the tech moguls, according to Axios. Her diagnosis follows that of White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, who is undergoing treatment for early-stage breast cancer.
