Sarah and Andrew Ferguson face Annabel's ban in 'awkward' family split
Fergies face Annabel's ban as daughters keep membership

The Duke and Duchess of York, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, are reportedly facing a deeply uncomfortable social predicament that could see them barred from one of London's most exclusive private members' clubs while their daughters retain access.

The Annabel's Access Dilemma

According to sources speaking to the Daily Mail, the couple, often referred to as Andrew and Fergie, may find themselves turned away from the legendary Annabel's in Mayfair. The club, founded by Mark Birley in 1963 and known for hosting icons from Frank Sinatra to Princess Diana, apparently believes their 'type of notoriety is not what the club needs'.

This potential ban extends beyond the main club to its four sister venues, including Mark's, all owned by Richard Caring's Birley Group. A significant concern for the group is the very public nature of the entrances. Having Andrew or Sarah photographed outside would not be a 'great look' for the prestigious brand.

A Royal Family Divide

The situation creates a particularly awkward dynamic within the family. While the former Duke and Duchess could be refused entry, their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, both hold memberships and are unaffected by the reported prohibition.

An insider suggested this could lead to a 'very awkward' scenario at the club's doorstep, highlighting a stark divide in the family's social standing. The reported annual membership fee for Annabel's is approximately £3,750, a sum that may no longer guarantee access for the York parents.

Another Blow to Andrew's Standing

If enforced, the exclusion from Annabel's represents the latest in a series of setbacks for Prince Andrew. He was previously stripped of his royal patronages and his military affiliations, and he lost his long-standing residence at Royal Lodge.

These actions followed the intense scrutiny over his links to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has consistently denied all allegations related to Epstein, including during his controversial 2019 interview with Emily Maitlis.

In a further potential blow, the Duke could also be stripped of the Freedom of the City of London, an honour he inherited through patrimony from his father, Prince Philip. A spokesperson for the City of London Corporation confirmed they would 'carefully consider the rules' regarding the removal of the honour if concerns are submitted.
