Epstein's Secret Cameras Confirmed: DOJ Files Prove Mirror Investigation
Jeffrey Epstein dismissed a Mirror investigation into his alleged use of hidden cameras as "all made up" to a victim of his sexual trafficking. However, newly released US Department of Justice files have now definitively proven the claims, exposing the paedophile's covert surveillance operations.
Exclusive Evidence from Government Files
Buried within more than three million files published by the Department of Justice is a January 5, 2015, exchange between Epstein and a worried survivor of his abuse. The woman confronted Epstein about the Mirror's report from the previous day, which detailed how he used covert cameras to film VIP friends with girls.
Including a link to the story, she frantically emailed him: "What hidden cameras in the guest room walls?" Epstein fired back: "All made up. They write what they want." The woman replied she hoped they were not in the bathroom. The investigation, which Epstein declined to comment on at the time, told how he recorded sordid orgies thrown for powerful guests using cameras concealed in bedroom walls.
Emails Reveal Camera Installation Details
Now the newly disclosed files lay bare emails showing how Epstein directed staff to install hidden recording devices inside his properties. On February 5, 2014, Epstein emailed Larry Visoski, pilot of his private jet dubbed the Lolita Express, asking him to purchase "three motion-detected hidden cameras."
Mr Visoski, who also acted as a technician and handyman, replied that he had already obtained the equipment. "Its amazing how small they are," he wrote, explaining they could record for 64 hours. "I'm installing them into Kleenex boxes now."
Russian Connections and Blackmail Speculation
That same day, Epstein received a separate email from another individual, whose name has been redacted, warning: "Remember... if you want to put cameras in the house. It will have to be very discreetly done. The Russians may come in handy." There is no further reference to Russians in the correspondence about the hidden devices.
Some, including Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, have speculated that Epstein may have worked with Moscow's intelligence services to gather blackmail material on influential figures. Several of the women he exploited were Russian. However, there is no clear evidence that he was a KGB asset.
Buckingham Palace and Political Implications
The story sparked alarm within Buckingham Palace due to fears the then-Prince Andrew may have been secretly filmed. A source told the Mirror: "This revelation will send shockwaves through the corridors of Buckingham Palace and Parliament."
"For years, there have been rumours about hidden cameras and so-called 'insurance policies', but to see documentary evidence that Epstein was actively sourcing and installing covert recording equipment changes the landscape entirely. It transforms what some dismissed as speculation into something far more concrete and unsettling."
"Given the documented associations with Andrew and Peter Mandelson, there will be deep unease at the highest levels. The obvious question now is not just whether cameras existed, but what they captured, where that material is, and who may have access to it."
Financial Records and Property Evidence
Newly released credit card statements show two transactions on February 4, 2014, at a surveillance store called RNMC in Fort Lauderdale, totalling more than $1,000 (£735). Epstein's American Express account, understood to have been accessible to staff, lists the purchases.
RNMC says it specialises in "surveillance technology, including camera installation, bug sweeping, and private investigation work." Additional emails suggest devices were installed at Epstein's mansion on El Brillo Way in Palm Beach, Florida – a property visited by Andrew and Mandelson.
Historical Context and Previous Investigations
The use of covert recording devices at Epstein's homes had surfaced years earlier. In 2005, during a police investigation into allegations of rape and sexual abuse of girls, detectives searched the Palm Beach mansion. A police official later wrote in an incident report that he "located two covert cameras."
Florida detective Michael Reiter, who helped secure Epstein's 2008 conviction for procuring a minor for prostitution, later claimed he appeared to have received advance warning of a search warrant.
Further Camera Discoveries and Testimonies
Further evidence of hidden cameras emerged last summer when photographs showed a device mounted high in the corner of the master bedroom in Epstein's palatial New York townhouse. Another camera was concealed within decorative mouldings in an adjoining room.
The Mirror also reviewed an image showing a camera near a suite of bathrooms on the same floor as Epstein's bedroom. By the time of his arrest in July 2019, a room in his Manhattan mansion contained monitors apparently linked to cameras covering the exterior and entrance hall. The property was another location where Andrew and Mandelson had stayed.
When the FBI raided his homes, agents reviewed "hundreds of hours" of surveillance footage. Marie Farmer, who has said she was sexually assaulted by Epstein and his pal Ghislaine Maxwell in 1996, described a "media room" inside the New York property. She recalled seeing numerous TVs displaying feeds from cameras in bedrooms and bathrooms.
"I asked him: 'What do you do with all this,'" Ms Farmer said. "And he said: 'I keep it all in my safe.'"
Insurance Policy and Ongoing Concerns
A source previously told the Mirror: "Epstein kept a treasure trove of information on his famous friends. He knew it would provide an insurance policy should anything happen." Andrew's former girlfriend, Lady Victoria Hervey, has also spoken of her unease while staying at an apartment owned by Epstein.
The socialite, who dated the Duke in 1999, said: "I felt I was being watched." Maxwell is serving 20 years for sex trafficking. Epstein died by suicide in jail in 2019. Mandelson and Andrew each deny any wrongdoing.
