In an exclusive interview, Coronation Street star Olivia Frances Brown has addressed the fate of her character Jodie Ramsey, who recently vanished from Weatherfield. The actress hinted that viewers will soon learn more about Jodie's troubled past, which explains why she behaves the way she does.
Exploring Jodie's Backstory
Speaking to The Mirror, Brown discussed the possibility of delving deeper into Jodie's history, particularly her relationship with her father. Co-star Julia Goulding, who plays Jodie's sister Shona Platt, joined the conversation, suggesting that exploring their past could shed light on Jodie's actions.
Brown stated, "The history with Jodie's dad is a big part of why she is the way she is, and nobody really understands that fully yet. I would like to touch on it some more." Goulding added, "It's the reason she's messed up."
A Complex Villain
Brown emphasized that Jodie is not a one-dimensional villain. "She is messed up for a reason. She's not just another villain, she's more complex than that. She's quite layered," she explained. The actress hopes that revealing Jodie's backstory will help viewers empathize with the character.
Despite Jodie's recent revenge scheme targeting Shona and her husband David Platt, both actresses believe the sisterly bond will endure. "I think they are very bonded and I don't think there's much that can shake them," Brown said. Goulding agreed: "That sisterly bond I'd like to think is unbreakable. Sisters fight, but I'd personally love the bond to be unbreakable."
Hopes for Jodie's Future
Brown shared her hopes for Jodie going forward: "I hope Jodie gets help with her mental health and gets some of that happiness she has been longing for. That would be nice." Onscreen, Shona and David are left wondering about Jodie's whereabouts, fearing she was kidnapped, unaware that she fled after attacking David's sister Sarah Platt.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
