Scottish football fans and their canine companions have been left disappointed after Adidas decided not to produce Scotland-themed dog kits for the World Cup. The sportswear giant has unveiled a pet collection featuring home kits for Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Japan, but Scotland was omitted due to a suspected lack of demand.
The Scotland men's national team is set to return to the World Cup for the first time since 1998, facing Haiti, Brazil, and Morocco in the group stage. Despite the historic qualification, Adidas chose not to include Scotland in its pet range, which will be available from 1 May in select regions including North America, Latin America, and Japan.
Paul Goodwin, co-founder of the Scottish Football Supporters Association, expressed disappointment, stating: 'We have a rich history of dogs following many of our teams and feel that Adidas should maybe rethink things before the World Cup kicks off.' An Adidas spokesperson explained that the decision was based on factors such as demand signals, consumer feedback, and design practicalities.
Meanwhile, Scotland fans have also faced frustration over ticket prices, which First Minister John Swinney has described as 'simply unaffordable'. A bank holiday has been declared on 15 June to mark the nation's World Cup return, with pubs allowed to stay open until 2am. Scotland's opening match against Haiti kicks off at 2am UK time on 14 June.
