Approximately 2,600 meals that went unserved at the White House Correspondents’ dinner were donated to a worthy cause, according to the White House Correspondents' Association President Weijia Jiang.
Meal Donation Details
Hilton donated the meals to two shelters for abused women and children. The hotel chain freeze-dried the steak and lobster to extend their shelf life before sending them to the shelters.
“HUGE thank you to the staff that worked through the night under terrible circumstances,” Jiang added.
Background on the Incident
The donation comes after a chaotic event where Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old computer engineer from California, allegedly opened fire at Saturday’s dinner. He appeared in federal court on Monday, facing charges including attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump and weapons violations.
Unsealed court documents revealed the gunman’s list of ranked targets at the Correspondents’ Dinner attack.
