Soccer Aid 2026: Celebrity Charity Football Event Returns with Historic Youngest Player

The highly anticipated Soccer Aid charity football match is set to make a triumphant return in 2026, continuing its two-decade legacy of raising crucial funds for Unicef. This year's event promises to be particularly memorable, featuring a star-studded line-up that includes the youngest participant in the history of the ITV-broadcast spectacle.

Record-Breaking Debut for Teenage Sensation

Owen Cooper, the 16-year-old award-winning actor from the Netflix drama Adolescence, will make his Soccer Aid debut as part of the England team, securing his place as the youngest ever player to grace the pitch. Despite not being born when the inaugural Soccer Aid took place, Cooper expressed immense pride and honour at this milestone. "I'm incredibly proud to be playing at Soccer Aid for Unicef in its 20th anniversary year," he stated. "Becoming the youngest player to take part is a real honour, and I'm excited to step out at the London Stadium on May 31." Cooper emphasised the event's vital role in supporting children's safety, health, and play opportunities worldwide.

New Faces and Returning Favourites Join the Roster

Cooper is not alone in making his first appearance at the London Stadium this May. He will be joined by an array of debutants, including:

  • F1 racing star Damson Idris
  • Former rugby player Joe Marler
  • Podcaster and Loose Women personality GK Barry
  • Radio DJ Jordan North
  • Gladiator contestant Nitro, real name Harry Aikines-Aryeetey

Marler humorously referenced his recent stint on Celebrity Traitors, joking about being "faithful" to the charity cause, while North described feeling "privileged, excited and slightly terrified". Aikines-Aryeetey called it a "dream come true", and Barry shared her nervous excitement, noting she's been training with Ella for the big day.

The England team will also welcome back several fan favourites, such as former footballer Jill Scott, TV presenter Paddy McGuinness, singer Olly Murs, actor Tom Hiddleston, singer-songwriter Tom Grennan, and reality TV star Sam Thompson. On the Soccer Aid World XI FC side, returning stars include Olympic legend Usain Bolt, comedian Maisie Adam, rapper Big Zuu, Scottish actor Richard Gadd, and The Last Leg's Alex Brooker.

Special Commemorations and Broadcast Details

Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, co-founder Robbie Williams will return to the pitch and join the England management team. The event marks the 20th anniversary of Soccer Aid, with a special half-time show planned. In a nod to history, the England team will wear a replica of the 1966 World Cup-winning white kit, while the World XI FC will sport a custom Adidas design. The match will use the same footballs as the upcoming summer World Cup.

Hosted by Unicef UK ambassador Dermot O'Leary and former footballer Alex Scott, with commentary by Sam Matterface, the game will be broadcast live on ITV1, STV, and ITVX on May 31. Since its inception in 2006, England has claimed six victories, while the World XI FC leads with eight wins. More celebrity participants are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, building anticipation for this charitable showdown.
