When Sophie Turner partied at a trendy Notting Hill bar just days after going on leave from filming her Tomb Raider series, she likely did not anticipate the fury it would ignite among her colleagues. In a video sold to a red-top newspaper, the actress playing Lara Croft is seen enjoying herself with friends at Trejo's Tacos, despite having insisted she needed a break.
Crew Members Left 'Raging'
The Mail on Sunday can reveal that crew members on the multi-million-pound project have been left 'raging' because they have been unable to work while Turner recovers from illness, reportedly a back injury. A source disclosed that there have been 'heated conversations' among behind-the-camera staff after Turner, worth £10 million, was filmed dancing in the Mexican bar days after filming halted at Shinfield Studios in Berkshire.
An onlooker said: 'Sophie was the life and soul of the party. She was with a group of mates, drinking and dancing.' One crew member, on a day rate and thus not earning while filming is paused, stated: 'Loads of the crew were told that there was nothing to do if Sophie isn't there.'
Financial Strain on Crew
'There's hundreds who have basically been out of work for the past month, and without contracts we haven't been getting paid. All the while, Sophie is being paid and has millions in the bank,' the source added. 'It is just not fair. There has been mutiny in recent weeks. The minute the crew saw that video it all kicked off. There are many struggling to make ends meet while she's out.'
Unconfirmed reports suggest the mother of two, 30, has returned to set, but a source told the MoS: 'The damage is done.'
Background on the Series
Turner, catapulted to fame in 2011 as Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones, succeeds Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander as the archaeologist-adventurer in the £100 million television series. Written by Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, it also stars Sigourney Weaver.
Despite the criticism, on-set sources say Turner looked 'incredible' as Lara, though there are fears she may not sign up for a second season. One insider said: 'Sophie looks amazing, but there is a bit of awkwardness there. You wonder if she's in this for the long haul or not.'
Personal Challenges
Her high-profile divorce from American singer Joe Jonas in 2023 saw a vicious custody battle over their daughters, Willa, five, and Delphine, three. She has also opened up about her struggles with mental health, saying in 2024: 'My problem is that I would isolate if I felt triggered... or depressed.'
Ms Turner was approached for comment.
