Environmental Activists Stage Protest at Trump's Scottish Golf Resort
Environmental campaigners from Greenpeace have staged a targeted protest at one of former US President Donald Trump's Scottish golf courses. The activists erected six miniature mock wind turbines on the fourth hole green at the Trump Turnberry Golf Club in South Ayrshire.
The protest occurred early on Monday morning, with campaigners arriving at the prestigious course around 6:30am. Demonstrators carefully timed their action to avoid disrupting golfers' tee times, dismantling the replica turbines as players approached the affected area.
Direct Response to Trump's Energy Stance
Campaign organizers stated their protest was a direct response to Trump's well-documented opposition to wind energy and his recent support for expanded fossil fuel extraction. The action follows Trump's social media post last week advocating for increased oil and gas drilling in the North Sea region.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: "Aberdeen should be booming. Norway sells its North Sea Oil to the U.K. at double the price. They are making a fortune. U.K., which is better situated on the North Sea for purposes of energy than Norway, should, DRILL, BABY, DRILL!!! It is absolutely crazy that they don't... AND, NO MORE WINDMILLS!"
Greenpeace Campaigner Speaks Out
Lily-Rose Ellis, a climate campaigner with Greenpeace, explained the motivation behind the protest: "Donald Trump wants to keep us as lifetime members of his Gulf Club, where every time he starts an illegal war, bills go through the roof while his fossil fuel backers make billions."
Ellis continued: "But we don't need to stay stuck in his sand trap – the renewables Trump hates are the best insurance policy against the chaos he's unleashed. Wind and solar farms built since the start of the Ukraine war have saved us seven million pounds every day since Trump attacked Iran and drove gas prices back up again."
The campaigner concluded: "More clean energy that doesn't rely on the Strait of Hormuz or Russian pipelines can save us money, boost our security and tackle climate change. It's a hole in one."
Public Opinion and Course Response
Greenpeace claims that 65% of Scottish residents oppose Trump's push for greater oil and gas production, preferring renewable energy alternatives instead. The organization's research suggests significant public support for transitioning away from fossil fuels toward sustainable energy sources.
Trump Turnberry Golf Club has been contacted for comment regarding the protest incident. The resort, known for its championship golf courses and luxury accommodations, has previously been the site of environmental demonstrations related to Trump's climate policies.
The protest represents the latest clash between environmental activists and the former president's business interests in Scotland. Trump has owned golf properties in Scotland for years, including both Turnberry and another course in Aberdeenshire, with both locations having faced previous environmental protests.
