Alan Brazil, the talkSPORT presenter and former footballer, has surprised listeners with a noticeable weight loss. Fans took to social media during a recent broadcast to comment on his slimmer appearance, with one writing: 'Jesus what diet has Alan been on? He looks like he's lost loads of weight. Hope he's OK.' Another joked: 'Brazil is losing a lot of weight, he might have to change his name to Alan Paraguay.'
The 66-year-old, known affectionately as 'Big Al', was forced to take a two-week absence from the show in February due to a severe ear infection. Upon his return, he revealed that some friends thought he had died. 'I've never had so many texts and emails asking, Are you all right? Are you dead? Are you dying?' he said. 'It was my ears. I had a big infection in my right ear, and my left ear was blocked. I was sat here thinking I was going to fall off my chair.'
Brazil admitted the health scare was the worst he had ever felt. He also attributed his recent weight loss to a quieter lifestyle, saying he hardly goes out anymore and spends his time watching movies and horse racing. Despite this, he remains unapologetic about his past, having defended his boozy antics in his autobiography, There's an Awful Lot of Bubbly in Brazil, released 20 years ago.
'I love a drink but I know when enough is enough,' Brazil said. 'People say, Take care of yourself more, you've got to slow down, but that's the way I am. I've lost so many good friends in football and I just feel you're only here for a visit so enjoy yourself.'
