A 13-year-old girl from Melbourne has been charged with 52 offences, including allegedly shouting antisemitic remarks, throwing eggs, and swerving a stolen car towards Jewish families in a series of incidents across the city's south-eastern suburbs.
Police allege that on 25 March, the girl and two other girls shouted offensive, antisemitic remarks and threw eggs at pedestrians in Hampton, Ripponlea, and Caulfield. Three days later, the stolen black Hyundai sedan, allegedly driven by the 13-year-old, swerved towards Jewish families crossing the road in Ripponlea, narrowly missing them.
The spree continued with a hit-and-run in Brighton on Monday night, where a cyclist was injured after a stolen silver SUV crashed into his bike. The driver fled the scene. Early Tuesday morning, teenagers in a stolen Volkswagen Golf rammed an e-scooter in Elwood, causing two riders to fall. One victim and a passerby were allegedly threatened when they filmed the vehicle.
Police deployed stop sticks to halt the car on Dandenong Road, arresting three female occupants. The 13-year-old driver faces charges including reckless conduct endangering serious injury, multiple thefts, burglary, and threatening harm based on a protected attribute. Two other girls, aged 13 and 16, were charged with theft and handling stolen goods and bailed.
Police condemned the hate-based behaviour, stating, 'There is absolutely no place at all in our society for hate-based behaviour and such activity will not be tolerated.' Investigations remain ongoing.
