Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has voiced his growing alarm over foreign nations employing proxies to carry out criminal acts on British soil, following a series of attacks against Jewish venues across the country.
Visit to Arson-Attacked Synagogue
On Thursday, Sir Keir visited the Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow, north-west London, which was targeted in an arson attack the previous Saturday. The visit came amid a wave of incidents that have struck the Jewish community since late March.
Series of Attacks
These incidents include arson attempts at other synagogues, attacks on ambulances, damage to a former Jewish charity building, and a drone sighting near the Israeli embassy. The prime minister expressed his deep concern that foreign states are exploiting proxies to commit crimes within the UK, undermining national security.
New Legislation Promised
Sir Keir stated that his government would introduce new laws to tackle these "malign state actors" effectively. He emphasized the crucial role of counter-terrorism police and their collaboration with the Community Security Trust in protecting Jewish communities and countering these threats.
The prime minister's remarks underscore the government's commitment to addressing the rising tide of antisemitic attacks and ensuring the safety of all UK citizens.
