Rihanna Shooting Suspect Faces Loss of Speech Pathology License
Rihanna Shooting Suspect May Lose Professional License

The woman accused of firing shots at Rihanna's Beverly Hills mansion earlier this month now faces the potential revocation of her professional license as a speech-language pathologist. Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, was charged with 14 criminal counts, including attempted murder, after the terrifying incident that occurred while the singer and her family were inside the property.

Professional License in Jeopardy

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Ortiz's license to practice speech-language pathology in California could be suspended or permanently revoked. A member of the governing board is actively pushing to have her barred from working with the public if she is released from custody. Ortiz obtained her professional license in April 2016, and it was not scheduled to expire until June 2027.

Court Proceedings and Protective Measures

Ortiz is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday morning. Should she be released on bail or her own recognizance, the board intends to immediately block her from practicing as a speech-language pathologist. During a press conference on March 10, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman detailed the charges against Ortiz, which include one count of attempted murder, ten counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and three counts of shooting into an inhabited dwelling.

Judge Theresa McGonigle set Ortiz's bail at $1,875,000 and issued a protective order requiring her to stay away from Rihanna and her partner, A$AP Rocky (real name Rakim Mayers). The judge also ordered Ortiz to surrender all firearms in her possession.

Details of the Shooting Incident

The shooting targeted Rihanna's Beverly Hills home earlier this month while the singer, her partner, their three young children, and her mother were present on the property. Two staff members were also on site at the time. Although no one was injured, law enforcement officials stated that Rihanna and Rocky "easily could have been hit" by the gunfire.

District Attorney Hochman explained that the ten assault charges correspond to each person allegedly in the line of fire. The three counts of shooting into an inhabited dwelling include two structures on Rihanna's property and a neighboring residence that Ortiz allegedly targeted.

Investigation and Previous Behavior

Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed that the motive for the shooting remains undetermined, with the Robbery–Homicide Division continuing its investigation. The Daily Mail has revealed that Ortiz previously shared disturbing online messages directly targeting Rihanna, including posts criticizing the singer and videos discussing her death.

Ortiz also has a prior arrest record in Florida for domestic violence, careless driving, and violating pretrial release conditions. If convicted of the current charges, she could face up to life in state prison.

The case highlights the intersection of criminal allegations and professional licensing consequences, as Ortiz's career as a speech-language pathologist now hangs in the balance alongside her freedom.
