Rock Hall 2026 Inductees: Oasis, Iron Maiden, Sade, Phil Collins

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has unveiled its esteemed list of inductees for 2026, honouring a diverse array of musical icons including Oasis, Iron Maiden, Sade, and Phil Collins. The announcement was made during a broadcast of American Idol in the United States on Monday night, sparking excitement across the global music community.

Eligibility and Voting Process

To qualify for induction, artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the nomination year. This year's selections were determined by a rigorous voting process involving over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals, ensuring a comprehensive and respected outcome.

Notable Inductees and Their Legacies

Phil Collins, already a Hall of Fame member as part of Genesis, earns individual recognition for his prolific solo career. With timeless hits like In the Air Tonight and One More Night, Collins has amassed eight Grammy Awards, including the prestigious Album of the Year in 1985 for No Jacket Required.

Sade, the soul-jazz vocalist nominated previously in 2024, is celebrated for classics such as Smooth Operator and The Sweetest Taboo. Her smooth, emotive style has left an indelible mark on the music world.

Wu-Tang Clan, first-time nominees, are hailed as rap innovators since their groundbreaking 1993 debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Their influence continues to resonate in hip-hop and beyond.

Iron Maiden, nominated twice before, powered the new wave of British heavy metal with iconic albums like The Number of the Beast. Their energetic performances and thematic depth have cemented their status as metal legends.

The late Luther Vandross, who sold over 25 million albums and had hits like Here and Now and Any Love, is posthumously inducted. His soulful voice has inspired contemporary artists, including Kendrick Lamar and SZA, who referenced him in their track Luther.

Manchester Sound and British Influence

This year's induction embraces the iconic sound of Manchester, with post-punk pioneers Joy Division and New Order—sharing most of the same members—receiving honours. Britpop's recently reunited Oasis, led by the Gallagher brothers, also joins the list, highlighting their impact on 1990s music.

Billy Idol, another English artist, is recognised for bringing a punky sneer to pop with anthems like White Wedding and Rebel Yell, showcasing the breadth of British musical contributions.

Ceremony Details and Missed Nominations

The induction ceremony is scheduled for 14 November at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, promising a star-studded event. However, several notable nominees missed out this year, including Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, INXS, Melissa Etheridge, Jeff Buckley, Pink, New Edition, and Shakira.

Special Category Honours

Beyond the performer category, the Hall of Fame celebrates contributions across three special categories: early influence, musical excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun non-performer award.

The early influence category this year honours Queen Latifah, Cuban singer Celia Cruz, Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, rapper MC Lyte, and country rocker Gram Parsons, recognising their foundational roles in music history.

In the musical excellence category, songwriter Linda Creed and producers Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller, and Rick Rubin are honoured for their behind-the-scenes creativity and innovation.

More than 50 years after his death, Ed Sullivan, the legendary host of the eponymous TV show, enters the Hall of Fame with the Ahmet Ertegun non-performer award. This recognition highlights his Sunday night show, which served as a launchpad for many musical icons of the 1950s and 1960s and played a crucial role in breaking down racial barriers in American entertainment.
