The Miss Universe Australia competition is experiencing a significant transformation as it welcomes its oldest contestant in history following the removal of age limitations. Christina Dietze, a 38-year-old model and fashion designer from South Yarra, Victoria, has entered the pageant, inspired by her idol, 2004 winner Jennifer Hawkins.
Breaking Age Barriers in Beauty Pageants
Christina Dietze is making history as the most senior participant ever in the Miss Universe Australia contest after organizers eliminated previous age restrictions. Previously, contestants were limited to ages 18 through 28, but since 2023, women over 28 have been permitted to compete.
"I've taken care of myself and I've been in the modelling industry for a while now," Dietze told the Herald Sun. "I feel once we get to our 30s we have lived through some tougher experiences in life and we grow. I have something to share and give back."
Preparing for the Competition
Despite being described as 'pushing 40,' Dietze maintains she has kept herself in excellent condition and deserves an opportunity at the crown. The model reveals she has been "doing Pilates every day" in preparation for the competition, demonstrating her commitment to the rigorous demands of the pageant.
Inclusive Rule Changes
The organization has implemented more inclusive regulations beyond just age adjustments. Restrictions regarding marital status have also been lifted, meaning married women, divorced women, and mothers can now participate in the competition. This represents a substantial shift from traditional pageant requirements that often excluded women with these life experiences.
Recent Winner Contrast
Despite these progressive changes, last year's winner exemplified the younger demographic that has traditionally dominated the competition. Lexie Brant, a 21-year-old occupational therapy student and model from Brisbane, claimed the Miss Universe Australia 2025 title during a glamorous ceremony in Perth.
Brant impressed judges as she outperformed 28 other national hopefuls to secure the crown, earning her position as Australia's representative at the international Miss Universe competition. The blonde beauty received the crown from outgoing titleholder Zoe Creed, who had competed in the 2024 global finals in Mexico.
Lexie Brant's Journey
Wearing a glittering silver gown with a radiant smile, Brant looked every bit the winner as she took center stage during the highly anticipated finale. Now 22, Brant explained to Gold Coast Magazine that her decision to enter the national pageant stemmed from a desire to step outside her comfort zone and embrace new personal challenges.
"For me, entering Miss Universe Australia was about doing something original and intentionally outside my comfort zone," she revealed. The stunning contestant explained that she was "the quiet girl" growing up and tended to watch life go by "from the sidelines."
Other Notable Finalists
Ivy Prempeh was named first runner-up in the competition, while Cara Mooney, Bianca Black, and Ash Donner completed the prestigious top five. Additional finalists who delivered standout performances included Nadia Delis, Georgia Dewstow-Smith, Chloe Hardy, and Asha Cooper.
Australian Beauty Queen Legacy
Lexie Brant joins a distinguished list of Australian beauty queens who have forged successful careers in fashion and modeling following their pageant success. Notable alumni include Laura Dundovic, Erin McNaught, Monika Radulovic, and Maria Thattil, all of whom have transitioned from pageant success to established careers in the fashion industry.
The Miss Universe Australia competition continues to evolve, balancing traditional elements with progressive changes that reflect broader societal shifts. As Christina Dietze breaks age barriers and Lexie Brant represents the younger generation, the pageant demonstrates its capacity to embrace contestants across different life stages and experiences.
