Former President Donald Trump has circulated a deeply disturbing surveillance video depicting an alleged illegal immigrant brutally assaulting a woman with a hammer outside a Florida petrol station. The incident, which occurred in Fort Myers, has ignited a fierce political debate over immigration policies and protective status programs.
Details of the Fort Myers Hammer Attack
The accused individual is Rolbert Joachin, a 40-year-old Haitian national who originally entered the United States under a Temporary Protected Status designation. According to official court documents reviewed by the New York Post, this protected status lapsed in 2024. Joachin is alleged to have viciously attacked a 51-year-old mother in the parking lot of a Chevron station at approximately 7:20 AM last Friday.
First responders discovered the victim lying motionless in a substantial pool of blood surrounding her head, with no signs of breathing. The graphic nature of the surveillance footage, which Trump disseminated on his Truth Social platform, has been described as exceptionally violent and harrowing.
Trump's Political Commentary on the Incident
In a lengthy post published on Thursday, Trump framed the attack as a direct consequence of current immigration enforcement. He wrote, 'An Illegal Alien Criminal from Haiti, who was released into our Country by the WORST President in History, Crooked Joe Biden, and the Radical Democrats in Congress, just beat an innocent woman to death with a hammer at a gas station in Florida.'
Trump further asserted that the video of the assault 'is one of the most vicious things you will ever see.' He connected the tragedy to broader immigration policy, criticising the Temporary Protected Status program as 'a massively abused and fraudulent program' that his administration seeks to dismantle.
Broader Immigration Policy Debate
The former president claimed that Joachin remained in the country because the Biden administration extended Temporary Protective Status to Haitian nationals. Trump argued that 'Deranged Liberal District Court Judges' are obstructing his administration's efforts to terminate the program.
He concluded his social media statement by suggesting the woman's death should compel these judges to 'STOP impeding my Administration’s Immigration Policies, and allow us to END THIS SCAM ONCE AND FOR ALL.' This incident has rapidly become a focal point in the ongoing national discourse concerning border security, immigrant crime, and the judicial oversight of executive immigration actions.
The case remains under active investigation, and further updates are anticipated as legal proceedings develop and more information becomes available to the public and authorities.
