King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to visit First Lady Melania Trump’s new beehive after arriving at the White House Monday. The first lady unveiled an expansion of the White House's honey program on Friday, introducing a new beehive shaped like the executive mansion.
Unique Addition to White House Grounds
The uniquely-shaped addition joins two existing hives on the south grounds, which have been a fixture since 2009. The established hives house approximately 70,000 bees during peak summer months and collectively yield between 200 and 225 pounds of honey annually.
The harvested clover honey is used in White House meals, presented as official gifts, and donated to local food kitchens. The bees also play a crucial ecological role in pollinating nearby gardens.
Royal Visit to the Beehives
The King and Queen will visit the beehives nestled on the South Lawn near the historic building’s kitchen garden. This visit marks a continuation of the royal couple's engagement with environmental initiatives and their interest in sustainability.
