Joss Stone Shares Candid Thoughts on Family Life and Royal Connections

In an exclusive interview, singing sensation Joss Stone has opened up about her bustling life as a mother of four young children, while also addressing the much-publicised feud between Princes Harry and William. The 39-year-old artist, known for her soulful voice and down-to-earth demeanour, reveals that despite the chaos, she wouldn't change a thing.

A Hectic but Joyful Household

Joss Stone and her musician husband, Cody DaLuz, are parents to five-year-old Violet, three-year-old Shackleton, adopted one-year-old Bear, and baby Nalima, born last June. With all children aged five and under, life is undeniably full-on. "It's full-on and I'm deliriously tired, but I absolutely love it," Joss smiles during a rare break from parenting duties.

She credits her husband as a super hands-on partner, with her grandmother once remarking, "Jossy, that man is the best dad I've ever seen." Surprisingly, the couple manages without external help at home, relying solely on each other. "It's just us two with the kids, but we make it work," she says, adding that it would be much harder if either had to leave for work regularly.

Sleep, however, remains a challenge. Joss currently shares a room with Nalima and Violet, and bedtime doesn't always go smoothly. She recounts a recent incident where Nalima, teething and having overindulged in yoghurt, projectile-vomited all over her. "Me and Violet were falling about laughing, but then Cody came in and didn't find it funny at all," she laughs. When on tour, they enlist the help of nanny Dominique to ensure Joss gets enough rest to perform well.

Royal Weddings and Family Rifts

Joss Stone is one of the few VIP guests to have attended both Prince William and Prince Harry's weddings, describing them as "really nice events." However, she is keen to clarify that the royal brothers are not her closest friends. "The press has often reported it like I'm down the pub with Harry every Friday night or something, but it's not like that at all," she explains.

She emphasises that while she does extensive work for their charities and holds them in high regard, she doesn't maintain regular contact. "I love them both because they're really nice people," she says, but notes she wouldn't presume to call them for updates on personal matters like Kate's wellbeing.

Regarding the ongoing rift between Harry and William, Joss refuses to take sides. "All families have their ups and downs, don't they? It doesn't matter whether you're royal or not – family relationships are always interesting, and mostly you just love them," she reflects philosophically.

Personal Milestones and Future Plans

Joss and Cody married in secret on Nashville's Music Row in October 2023, but they plan a larger celebration later this year. "It wasn't really a wedding, more a three-minute ceremony with the kids, a priest and my dad on Zoom," she recalls. After returning to the UK permanently in 2025, they are enjoying life in Devonshire, though Cody has noted the lack of sunshine. "The joy is that all the rain brings green grass and amazing flowers," Joss adds cheerfully.

In addition to her family commitments, Joss is writing a book on breastfeeding to support other mothers, drawing from her own experiences. She also endured a 32-hour labour and emergency C-section with Shackleton, and was advised against further pregnancies, yet welcomed Nalima unexpectedly. Her upcoming performance at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival in May will mark the final outing of her intimate "Less Is More" tour, after which she plans to return to more energetic shows.

Career Highlights and New Music

Joss Stone shot to fame at 16 with her debut album The Soul Sessions in 2003 and has since released nine studio albums. In 2021, she won The Masked Singer dressed as a sausage, calling it "100% the craziest thing I've ever done, but probably also my favourite thing." Recently, she collaborated with singer-songwriter Conner Reeves on the duet Slow Lightning, a romantic song that marks Reeves' return to music after decades.

"When I see people looking happy, shedding a tear or asking for the song they got married to, that's when it's all worth it," Joss says of performing. As for expanding her family further, she laughs, "Never say never! We're in that zone where my words don't come out right and I put electrical items in the dishwasher, so sometimes I think we're good to stop at four."
