Josie Gibson Explains Why She Would Decline Full-Time This Morning Role
Josie Gibson, a beloved presenter on ITV's This Morning, has candidly addressed why she would turn down a permanent position on the show, citing her dedication to motherhood and life in the West Country. In an exclusive interview, the 41-year-old star revealed that her priority is being close to her seven-year-old son, Reggie James, rather than pursuing a high-profile career in London.
Motherhood and Home Life Take Precedence
Gibson, who lives in a four-bedroom countryside home in Somerset, emphasised that she values her role as a mother above all else. "I only get to be a mum once and you never get that time back," she stated, explaining that she prefers the tranquillity of the West Country over the bustling city life. She added, "I love the West Country. That's where I'm from. That's where I feel myself and that's where I feel like I can grow."
Despite her popularity, Gibson humbly dismissed the idea of being a role model for other parents, laughing off the suggestion with a self-deprecating remark. "Oh, no – please, no!" she exclaimed. "Mums don't look up to me. I'm juggling, I'm struggling, I'm stressed. I am just like any other mum out there."
Addressing Weight-Loss Surgery Rumours
In the interview, Gibson also tackled persistent rumours about undergoing weight-loss surgery. She clarified that she has no plans to alter her body surgically, stating she doesn't want to "mess around" with it. However, she expressed openness to future cosmetic procedures as she ages, humorously referencing Cher by saying, "Like Cher, if I want to put my t*** on my back, then that is up to me!"
Reflections on Fame and Social Media
With 15 years in the public eye, including stints on Big Brother and I'm A Celebrity, Gibson surprisingly claimed she still doesn't feel famous. "I've never felt famous. I've felt popular, yeah, but I've never felt like a celebrity – even when I was on I'm A Celebrity!" she insisted. She also shared her unique perspective on online criticism, remarking, "I love a bit of hate on social media. I think it's the greatest thing ever. If you're not getting hated by somebody, you're doing something wrong!"
New TV Series: Josie's Taste Of The West Country
Gibson is currently hosting a five-part series, Josie's Taste Of The West Country, which explores culinary delights across Gloucestershire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, and Cornwall. She expressed enthusiasm for showcasing local specialties, such as watercress, cider, and Cheddar cheese, and highlighted the passionate people she met during filming. "It was lovely to give them a nod and actually get them recognised, to bring them to the forefront," she said.
Memories from I'm A Celebrity and Future Aspirations
Recalling her 2023 appearance on I'm A Celebrity, Gibson admitted she didn't enjoy the experience due to her severe fear of spiders. "No! Not at all," she laughed when asked if she had fond memories. "I was just jumping out of my skin all the time." She did, however, form a bond with campmate Jamie-Lynn Spears, who gifted her son an Elf on the Shelf.
Looking ahead, Gibson remains focused on balancing her career with family life, while continuing to embrace opportunities that keep her connected to her roots. The series airs on ITV and ITVX, offering viewers a glimpse into her beloved West Country.
