Leicester Tigers Boss Geoff Parling Apologises for Swearing at TNT Sports Host

Leicester Tigers head coach Geoff Parling has publicly apologised after being involved in a heated exchange with TNT Sports presenter Craig Doyle. The incident occurred ahead of the Gallagher Premiership match between Leicester and Gloucester at Villa Park on Saturday.

Confrontation Over On-Field Kick

Footage from the pre-game broadcast showed Craig Doyle inviting Liam MacDevitt to attempt a conversion kick. MacDevitt's kick from the touchline flew towards the area where Leicester players were warming up, prompting an angry response from Parling.

Parling walked towards Doyle, pushed him, and swore, saying "It's f****** not on," after Doyle asked, "Would you sign him, Geoff?" The confrontation was captured on live television, drawing immediate attention from viewers and sports commentators.

Official Apology Issued

In a statement released by Leicester Tigers on Sunday afternoon, Parling expressed regret for his actions. He said, "I would like to apologise for the incident pre-game yesterday – it is important we stay a family-focused game and it wasn't appropriate for viewers to see that."

Parling also acknowledged the role of broadcasters in promoting the sport, adding, "We have a great product in the Gallagher Prem and I offer my thanks to Craig Doyle and everyone at TNT for continuing to innovate and think differently." He confirmed that after discussions, they would ensure better alignment on new ideas to engage audiences.

Private Apologies and Safety Concerns

Leicester Tigers confirmed that private apologies had been offered to those present at Villa Park, including Craig Doyle and TNT Sports staff. The club stated, "Tigers appreciate the apologies for the kick taking place initially."

On air, Doyle addressed the incident, saying, "Geoff not happy about that," in reference to Parling's language. After the match, Parling explained his reaction, noting that the kick setup was done without prior knowledge or approval. He emphasised player safety, saying, "I'm very wary I need to protect my players and certainly balls flying towards our players that could go anywhere where there's an injury risk, then I'm obviously not going to be happy."

TNT Sports has declined to comment on the matter, leaving the focus on Parling's apology and the ongoing discussions between the club and the broadcaster.
