James Haskell Says Celebs Go Dating Reconformed What I Want in Chloe Madeley Update
James Haskell: Celebs Go Dating Reconformed What I Want

James Haskell has revealed that his time on the latest series of E4's Celebs Go Dating has 'reconfirmed what I want' in life, particularly regarding his relationship with his ex-wife Chloe Madeley. The retired England rugby legend, 41, spoke candidly about his experience ahead of the show's premiere on Monday.

Seeking Permission from Chloe

James disclosed that he sought permission from Chloe, 38, the mother of his three-year-old daughter Bodhi, before committing to the dating programme. He felt it was 'the right thing to do' to ensure she was comfortable with his participation.

Lessons Learned from the Show

Reflecting on what he learned about himself through the series, James said in a fresh interview: 'I learnt a lot about what I want if I was to settle down or to date properly, and what my priorities are.' He proceeded to heap praise on Chloe despite their 2023 split, admitting: 'I was very lucky with Chloe to have someone who's very intelligent, driven, generous, works very hard, a great mum and is funny.'

Misconceptions and Self-Discovery

James also suggested that certain people he encountered on the programme appeared to have misread him, acknowledging that while he is a confident individual, he can also be 'a bit of a loner at times'. Speaking to The Sun's TV Mag, he described his overall experience on the series as 'really good'. He continued: 'It was a really fun experience and I actually learnt some stuff. It reconfirmed what I want in life and made me really appreciate what an amazing woman Chloe is and what my priorities are, which is her and Bodhi.'

Cast and Format of Celebs Go Dating

James is appearing on the E4 programme alongside Married At First Sight star Lucinda Light, Loose Woman Coleen Nolan, Love Island alumna Gabby Allen, rapper Professor Green, content creator PK Humble, and Celebrity Big Brother winner David Potts. The series follows the single famous faces as they are paired up on dates with members of the public, guided by therapist Anna Williamson, dating and relationship expert Paul C. Brunson, and sexual communication specialist Dr. Tara Suwinyattichaiporn.

James and Chloe's Relationship History

Chloe, daughter of beloved TV icons Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, tied the knot with James in 2018 after he proposed in Paris. However, five years into their marriage, and following the arrival of their daughter Bodhi, the couple announced their split shortly after their reality TV venture At Home with the Madeleys was broadcast. Chloe previously confirmed to The Sun's Fabulous magazine: 'Our life has very slowly fallen into place as co-parents and as ex-husband and wife.' She confessed that while the pair are 'fine now', the divorce process was 'incredibly emotional and volatile' for both of them, with the former couple sometimes 'not speaking' following rows.

Celebs Go Dating kicks off on E4 from Monday May 4 at 9pm.
