Reality TV star and radio host Abbie Chatfield has launched a scathing attack on fellow broadcaster Kyle Sandilands, questioning why he continues to be employed despite a history of controversial remarks.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Chatfield expressed bewilderment that Sandilands, 51, has not faced more severe consequences. "I have no idea how Sandilands hasn't been cancelled," she said. "I don't know why he's not at least being reprimanded. I don't know why advertisers still align."
Chatfield specifically cited Sandilands' comments about the Paralympics, where he described watching events as "horrific" and made derogatory remarks about blind athletes. She also referenced his suggestion that a night host might have monkeypox, and his controversial statement about the Virgin Mary.
Sandilands, who co-hosts KIIS FM's Kyle and Jackie O Show, has a long history of offensive comments. In 2021, he sparked outrage by claiming the Virgin Mary was lying about celibacy. His Paralympics comments last year drew widespread criticism.
Chatfield, host of Hit Network's Hot Nights With Abbie, argued that Sandilands' behaviour would not be tolerated from other presenters. "I'm sure if someone like Fitzy or Wippa, the loveliest guys in the world, said something like that, they'd get in a lot of s**t," she said.
Sandilands has since responded, saying he holds no ill feelings towards Chatfield and believes her comments were prompted by the newspaper's questioning. He praised her work and wished her well.
