Ed Sheeran Arm Wrestles Chris Hemsworth in Instagram Clip

Ed Sheeran, the celebrated singer-songwriter, recently attempted to demonstrate his physical prowess by challenging Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth to a friendly arm wrestling contest. The playful encounter was captured in a video clip that Sheeran shared on his official Instagram account this past Thursday, delighting fans with a glimpse of the stars' competitive spirit.

A Surprising Victory and a Humble Defeat

In the amusing footage, the 35-year-old musician can be seen putting forth considerable effort as he engages in the iconic match against the mighty Thor actor, who is 42 years old. To the amusement of viewers, Sheeran managed to secure a victory in the initial round, triumphing over Hemsworth with a display of unexpected strength. Laughing off his success, the singer then attempted to ride the wave of his win by challenging Hemsworth to a left-arm wrestle. Unfortunately, this subsequent round proved less successful for Sheeran, resulting in a defeat that highlighted the actor's own formidable power.

Sheeran's Muscular Transformation

Ed Sheeran's display of strength may not come as a complete surprise to his dedicated fanbase, as he recently showcased his remarkably muscular physique for a Men's GQ cover shoot. Alongside the Instagram post featuring the arm wrestling video, Sheeran penned a caption that read: 'Recreating the comic book cover,' hinting at his newfound superhero-like appearance. The singer has toned up to great effect after making significant lifestyle changes, including ditching fast food and embracing a rigorous fitness regimen. This transformation followed the birth of his two daughters, Lyra and Jupiter, whom he shares with his wife, Cherry Seaborn.

The Motivation Behind the Fitness Journey

Despite his disciplined new look, which is the result of regular gym sessions, reformer pilates, and a fat-free diet, Sheeran admits that at heart, he will always retain elements of his former self. In a candid reflection, he stated: '[Fitness] just sort of became something that really added to my life. I think, underneath it all, I am a pizza-eating, beer-guzzling smoker, but that’s just not my reality as a parent in my thirties. I think that you have to make good decisions.'

Sheeran elaborated on his journey, noting: 'I’d never run more than a kilometre and did my first 10K during Covid – stuff like that, building up to that, it just makes you feel better. And I think that in my thirties, that’s where I’m at. I’m not saying I’m done with enjoying myself, I still drink. I love red wine, I love a nice meal, but it’s not every day.'

A Reality Check from Fatherhood

The decision to overhaul his lifestyle came after Sheeran experienced a profound reality check following the birth of his eldest daughter, Lyra, who is now five years old, in 2020. He explained: 'I became a dad. I remember Lyra was two weeks old and I had my best mate round and we had a bottle of wine. I went to bed, then Lyra woke up 20 minutes after I’d fallen asleep. I woke up and I was like, "F*ck, I probably shouldn’t drink if I’m going to feel this dreadful." I want to be able to do the night stuff.'

Sheeran continued: 'It all came in at the same time of wanting to be a responsible dad, wanting to feel and look good. I didn’t want to pick my kid up and have my back f**ked and stuff like that. And then also that feeds into professional life… I wanted to feel superhuman on stage.' This heartfelt admission underscores the dual motivations of parental responsibility and professional excellence that have driven his fitness transformation.
