Danielle Spencer Reflects on Sweet Stage Reunion with Ex-Husband Russell Crowe
Danielle Spencer on Stage Reunion with Ex Russell Crowe

Danielle Spencer has opened up about her touching reunion with former husband Russell Crowe during a special music performance last year. The friendly ex-couple took to the stage together at Sydney's Enmore Theatre in December for a one-off show headlined by Crowe's band, Indoor Garden Party.

A Sentimental Performance for the Family

The 56-year-old actress and singer appeared as a guest performer at the event, which she described as a deeply moving experience for their two sons, Charles, 19, and Tennyson, 22. In an interview with Nine Honey this week, Spencer expressed her gratitude for the invitation, stating she thought it was 'lovely of him' to include her.

'I thought it was a really sweet thing to do, and it was lovely for our boys to have mum and dad both doing their thing up on stage,' she told the publication. 'It felt like such a special moment; I haven't performed with Russell in a long time. The night was incredible.'

Music as a Bonding Force

Reflecting on their shared history, Spencer revealed that music has always been a fundamental connection between her and Crowe. 'Russell and I connected through music in the early days of knowing each other,' she explained to news.com.au. 'We've performed together countless times over the years. It seemed like a lovely full circle moment.'

She added that revisiting this musical bond for the performance was a sentimental process, describing it as 'a nice, kind of full circle moment with Russell.'

Navigating Post-Divorce Challenges

The reunion comes after Spencer recently discussed the emotional aftermath of her 2018 divorce from Crowe, now 61. On the Stellar podcast Something To Talk About, she confessed to feeling guilt over ending their 15-year marriage.

'It's really sad breaking up with somebody that you've known for so long, that you've had children with,' she told host Sarrah Le Marquand. 'Me kind of breaking up the family – and it felt very much like I was driving that – so I had to deal with my almost sense of guilt that I was fracturing the family, but obviously I did it for a number of reasons and I wouldn't have done it if I didn't think it needed to happen.'

A Strong Friendship Despite Difficulties

While Spencer and Crowe now maintain a solid friendship as they co-parent their sons, she emphasized that the journey hasn't always been smooth. 'There were days and moments where obviously things were not fine, were tense, we were unhappy and it's sad,' she shared, noting she doesn't want people to assume their split was without challenges.

Crowe has previously confirmed their amicable relationship, telling The Kyle and Jackie O Show that he remains in close contact with his ex-wife. He expressed excitement about the one-night-only performance and its surprising opening act.

Family Approval and Blended Dynamics

Former radio host Kyle Sandilands praised Crowe for maintaining good terms with Spencer, remarking, 'Isn't it nice when you can get an ex to also show up and it doesn't cause any trouble with the current missus? Everyone's happy. She's the mother of your child.'

Crowe responded positively, saying, 'Yeah everybody's cool. The coolest about that is my kids. They're like, "Dad, that's really excellent".'

The couple married in 2003, separated in 2012, and finalized their divorce in 2018. Their recent stage collaboration highlights how they've successfully navigated their post-marriage relationship, creating meaningful moments for their family.
