Cybill Shepherd Enjoys Low-Key 76th Birthday Celebration in Los Angeles
Hollywood legend Cybill Shepherd has marked another milestone, celebrating her 76th birthday in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The actress was spotted leaving a restaurant with her devoted assistant by her side, enjoying a laid-back and celebratory occasion.
A Casual Outing for the Iconic Star
Shepherd, clad in a floral print jacket and jeans with her hair slicked up into a bun, was seen with a hand rested on her assistant's shoulder. Her employee appeared to have his hands full with a striped tote that may have belonged to his boss, adding a touch of practicality to the festive moment.
From Memphis to Hollywood Stardom
Memphis-born Shepherd became a household name after starring in the popular series Moonlighting opposite Bruce Willis, with the pair playing respective characters Maddie Hayes and David Addison in the dramatic comedy. Her career includes numerous iconic roles, such as Robert De Niro's love interest in the drama Taxi Driver, which recently marked its 50th anniversary.
Directed by Martin Scorsese, Taxi Driver was nominated for multiple Oscar awards, including the coveted Best Picture award, following its release on February 8, 1976. While Shepherd did not receive any Academy Award nominations, her acting prowess did not go unnoticed by critics in later years.
Accolades and On-Screen Chemistry
Shepherd earned widespread praise for her performance on Moonlighting, which aired on ABC from 1985 to 1989. She won two Golden Globes for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series—Comedy or Musical in 1986 and 1987, and was nominated again in 1988. Additionally, she received an Emmy nomination in 1988 for her work on the series.
Despite their undeniable on-screen chemistry, Shepherd and Willis shared a famously rocky off-screen relationship. 'I remember at one point in the show, it had gotten to where we just hated each other,' Shepherd admitted to EW in 2005 about their tumultuous working dynamic.
Continued Success and Recent Projects
Later, from 1995 to 1997, Shepherd garnered three more Emmy nods for her role on the CBS sitcom Cybill, which also earned her a Golden Globe win in 1996 and a nomination the following year. Her most recent role came as author Nancy Crampton-Brophy in the 2023 TV movie How to Murder Your Husband, written and directed by Stephen Tolkin, co-starring Steve Guttenberg, Sandy Minh Abley, and Primo Allon.
Shepherd has been making appearances on stage recently, performing music, sharing behind-the-scenes footage, and telling stories about her career in Cybill Shepherd: Queen of the Lucky Club. This ongoing engagement showcases her enduring passion for the arts and connection with audiences.
