Tesco shoppers across the United Kingdom are advised to verify the operating hours of their nearest store this Easter weekend, as the extended bank holiday period has prompted adjustments to standard schedules. The supermarket giant has implemented revised timings to accommodate the festive break, ensuring customers can plan their shopping trips accordingly.
Easter 2026 Dates and General Overview
This year, the Easter festivities span from Good Friday on April 3 through to Easter Monday on April 6, with Easter Sunday falling on April 5. Tesco has tailored its opening hours across different regions and store formats, reflecting both legal requirements and operational considerations. It is crucial for consumers to note that these changes may vary by location, so utilising the Tesco store locator tool is highly recommended for precise information.
Good Friday Opening Arrangements
On Good Friday, the majority of larger Tesco stores in England and Wales will operate from 6am to 10pm, providing extended access for last-minute holiday preparations. In contrast, all large stores in Scotland and Northern Ireland will maintain their normal trading hours without any alterations. For convenience stores, the majority of large Tesco Express outlets will also be open from 6am to 10pm, while standard Express stores will see no changes to their schedules.
Easter Sunday Trading Restrictions
Easter Sunday brings significant variations due to trading laws. All large Tesco stores in England and Wales will be closed entirely on this day, adhering to statutory regulations. However, in Scotland, where such restrictions do not apply, stores will trade from 8am to 10pm. Similarly, the majority of large Tesco Express stores will also be closed on Easter Sunday, though standard Express stores will continue with their usual hours.
Easter Monday Operating Hours
As the bank holiday weekend concludes, Easter Monday will see most large Tesco stores in England and Wales open from 8am to 6pm, offering a shorter trading window. In Northern Ireland, the majority of large stores will operate from 8am to 8pm, while all large stores in Scotland will run their usual hours without adjustment. For Express stores, the majority of large formats will be open from 8am to 6pm, with standard Express stores remaining unchanged.
Additional Considerations and Updates
Beyond opening hours, Tesco has also announced that petrol filling station timings may vary, so customers should check specifics for these facilities. This update coincides with a recent pay rise for Tesco workers, part of a new £200 million investment. From March 29, shop workers and online fulfilment centre staff received a 5.1% increase, raising their hourly rate to £13.28. Employees in London saw an additional allowance, bringing their rate to £14.55 within the M25.
Ashwin Prasad, Tesco UK’s chief executive, emphasised the value of colleagues, stating that the pay deal reflects appreciation for their daily contributions. Daniel Adams of trade union Usdaw noted that this increase widens the gap above the national living wage and praised Tesco for becoming the first retailer to offer paid leave for staff affected by domestic abuse.
