Chris Evans' celebrity talk show TFI Friday has returned after more than a decade off air, reviving memories of a controversial moment when he asked Victoria Beckham to weigh herself shortly after she gave birth.
The unfiltered chat show first launched in 1996 on Channel 4 and was pulled from the air after several years. A brief revival occurred in 2015, but the show has now made a comeback on Virgin Radio UK's YouTube channel, with the first episode airing on Friday, February 6.
The original run faced backlash after a resurfaced clip showed Evans, 59, grilling Spice Girls icon Victoria Beckham about her weight in May 1999, just two months after she gave birth to son Brooklyn. Evans asked if her weight was 'back to normal' and then pulled out a weighing scale, asking to 'check'. In a 2022 Vogue interview, Victoria reflected: 'He made me stand on the scales to be weighed. Can you imagine doing that nowadays.' She later recalled on a podcast: 'It was so humiliating. David was there... he looks a little horrified as well. But back in the day those things were acceptable.'
The revamped version, titled TFI Unplugged, features guests including actor Delroy Lindo, comedian Ross Noble, and band James. Evans expressed optimism about the show's longevity, noting that Rod Stewart was only four years younger than him when he appeared on TFI Friday, and Paul McCartney was a few years younger when he guested. 'We've got plenty of road still to run,' Evans said.
TFI Friday will air weekly on Virgin UK Radio's YouTube channel every Friday.
