Beckham Praises Jacquemus' Grandmother at Met Gala

David Beckham swooned over Simon Porte Jacquemus' 'elegant' grandmother Liline as she joined the designer at the star-studded Met Gala on Monday. Simon, 36, who launched the celeb-loving Jacquemus label back in 2010, shared a clip to Instagram as he took to the red carpet with the stylish 80-year-old.

The pair were both dressed in chic white Jacquemus suits for the event which had seen them travel from their native France all the way to New York. He captioned the post: 'I hesitated to bring you to New York… Then I imagined myself at 80. And I realised that this is the most beautiful gift: to be taken somewhere else, by the ones we love. What an honour'. To which David, 51, said: 'Your grandmother is so beautiful & so elegant'.

David's son Romeo also made his Met Gala debut on Monday, but there was no awkward reunion with estranged brother Brooklyn, who skipped the event. Fans were anticipating that the Beckham brothers would both be in attendance at the prestigious fashion event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. However, it was only Romeo, 23, who graced the steps of the Met, with Brooklyn absent for the second year in a row.

In 2024, Brooklyn attended the event solo while his wife Nicola Peltz spent quality time with her late grandmother, who was unwell at the time. The couple had attended together every year from 2021. But this year it was Romeo's turn to take the spotlight as he was invited by British heritage brand, Burberry.

Romeo made a splash during his debut appearance alongside supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who is an ambassador for the brand. They were joined on the red carpet by chief creative officer of Burberry, Daniel Lee. Romeo cut a cool figure in a double-breasted jacket with leather lapels, teamed with a matching shirt and tie in the same fabric. Rosie wore a dark brown Burberry dress that cinched in the middle to emphasize her minuscule waist. The ruched skirt clung to her frame and featured a thigh-high slit at the front, while she accessorised the look with a sparkling silver necklace and matching earrings.

Romeo was no doubt relieved to dodge the awkward red carpet encounter, as the brothers haven't spoken for more than a year amid a family feud. Shortly after his appearance, Romeo received a show of support from his brother Cruz, 21, who posted a picture of his appearance on his Instagram story. Sharing a screen grab of Romeo stood next to Rosie with the Rascal Flatts song, Life Is A Highway, he wrote: 'There he is'.

In January the wannabe chef announced his disassociation from his famous family – declaring he was no longer part of 'Brand Beckham' and insisting his parents and their other children Romeo, Cruz, and Harper, 14, are 'performative'. In an apparent dig at Brooklyn, his siblings joined their mum Victoria to surprise David on his big day with a joint and very unlikely family gift, chickens. Posh, 52, shared a clip on Instagram of the former footballer as he met the birds for the first time and settled them into their coop on the grounds of the family's £15million Cotswolds estate.

In the sun-soaked video David wore a cowboy hat as he removed his new feathery friends from their boxes with a huge smile on his face. From behind the camera Victoria gushed: 'It's David's birthday and this is me and the kids bought him, from the boys, they're so pretty!' She captioned the post: 'Happy Birthday, we love you so much!!' Romeo also took to Instagram with a sweet tribute as he shared two childhood snaps with his dad. He penned: 'Happy birthday dad, love you so much, thank u for everything you do,' and described him as 'My best mate'. David's youngest son Cruz shared two snaps to his Instagram Story showing him and his dad on a yacht as he wrote: 'Happy birthday I love you xxx.' Harper followed her brothers with a sweet post that read: 'Happy birthday to the best daddy in the whole world.'

Romeo was in New York at the weekend where he attended one of the pre-parties for the event, which is one of Brooklyn's favourite of the year. In the lead up to the event, it was not known if Brooklyn and his wife were attending and neither posted on Instagram over the weekend. Expectedly, Brooklyn remained silent as his siblings rushed to social media to wish their dad David a happy 51st birthday on Saturday.
