Mathematician and BBC presenter Hannah Fry has revealed her science-driven skincare routine on the podcast Table Manners. Known for her analytical approach, Fry applies the same rigour to her beauty products, stating, “I science the **** out of my skincare.” She insists every product she uses is backed by peer-reviewed studies.
Fry is a firm advocate of LED light therapy, specifically red light masks. “There are genuine peer-reviewed studies about this. It’s proper, it’s genuine, it really works,” she said. She uses the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask at home, but stresses consistency is key, recommending use at least five times a week for visible results.
Her interest in skincare stems from personal experience with acne. She underwent intense treatments including laser resurfacing and Roaccutane to address scarring, which shaped her results-oriented approach. This leads her to favour prescription-strength tretinoin over retinol, as both are vitamin A derivatives but tretinoin is often prescribed for acne.
In her morning routine, Fry relies on the SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Serum for vitamin C. “Any discolouration you have, it lifts it,” she explained. While she mentioned specific brands, she emphasised that the science behind the products is what matters most.
