EasyJet Urges Passengers to Complete Two Key Safety Checks Before Flights
EasyJet: Two Essential Checks Before Flying

As families across the UK gear up for the summer holidays, easyJet has issued two crucial safety recommendations for all passengers ahead of their flights. The airline emphasizes the importance of these checks to ensure a smooth and secure journey.

Travel Insurance is a Must

EasyJet strongly advises travelers to purchase comprehensive travel insurance at the time of booking. The airline states on its website: "We cannot stress enough how important it is to take out comprehensive travel insurance at the time of booking, to cover you in the event that something stops you going on holiday and while you're away too."

Passengers should verify that their policy covers any activities or sports they plan to participate in. The cost of international healthcare can be substantial, and insurance not only covers these expenses but also provides support for accessing the best care and arranging repatriation if needed.

The airline recommends carrying a copy of the policy and saving the emergency assistance contact number in your mobile phone. It also reminds travelers that a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) only provides basic state medical care in participating countries and does not cover repatriation. A GHIC can be applied for via the NHS website.

Share Your Travel Details

For the second tip, easyJet advises passengers to leave a copy of their travel details with a trusted person, such as a next of kin or emergency contact. This ensures that someone knows your itinerary and can assist in case of an emergency.

The UK GHIC allows holidaymakers to access necessary state healthcare in the European Economic Area (EEA) and some other countries at the same cost as local residents. It replaces the old EHIC, but existing EHIC cards remain valid until their expiry date. Once expired, a UK GHIC must be applied for.

EasyJet concludes: "The UK GHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance. We advise you to have private travel and medical insurance for the duration of your trip."
