Davina McCall's Emotional Engagement Revealed

Television presenter Davina McCall has spoken for the first time about her engagement to long-term partner Michael Douglas, describing the moment as both wonderful and 'terrifying'. The 58-year-old confirmed the news in September, but the proposal actually took place during a romantic holiday in Ibiza back in July. McCall admitted the proposal came as a complete surprise, especially given Michael's history of playful mock proposals.

Overcoming Health Challenges

This happy news comes after a tremendously difficult period for McCall regarding her health. In November last year, she underwent surgery to remove a 14mm colloid cyst – a rare benign brain tumour. The cyst's location near the central part of her brain caused significant memory difficulties post-surgery, an experience she previously described as 'horrible' and likened to Alzheimer's disease.

More recently, McCall faced another health scare, revealing she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In an emotional video shared on Instagram, she explained that she discovered a lump early and has since had it successfully removed. Thankfully, her lymph nodes were clear, and the cancer had not spread. She is scheduled to undergo five days of radiotherapy in January as a preventative measure.

Wedding Plans and Family Support

Speaking about their future, Davina shared that their wedding will be a 'very small and private' affair. The couple, who have been together for six years after two decades of friendship that began on Big Brother, have the full support of her family. Before proposing, Michael sought permission from Davina's three children – Holly, Tilly, and Chester. McCall shared that he joked with them, asking, 'Do you want me as a stepdad?' to which everyone responded happily.

Davina, who was previously married to Matthew Robertson from 2000 to 2017, emphasised the importance of family during her health struggles. She noted that returning to work on ITV's Long Lost Family provided a crucial breakthrough in her recovery, calling the show 'an old friend' that helped her long-term memory.

Through all her challenges, McCall remains a powerful advocate for health awareness, urging her followers to 'get checked if you're worried' and to perform regular self-examinations for anything unusual.
