Coronation Street Fans Heartbroken Over Todd's Domestic Abuse Ordeal

Coronation Street viewers were left devastated on Monday as the ITV soap aired a powerful episode focusing on domestic abuse, with Todd Grimshaw at the centre of the harrowing storyline. The special episode, filmed from multiple camera perspectives, highlighted the abuse Todd has been suffering at the hands of his controlling partner, Theo Silverton.

For months, fans have watched Theo manipulate, gaslight, and isolate Todd from his loved ones. The latest episode showed the abuse escalating to a violent climax, leaving viewers heartbroken and begging other characters to 'wake up' to Todd's plight. In a cruel twist, the tables were turned when Theo appeared as the victim and Todd as the villain.

Events came to a head when Todd finally stood up to Theo, resulting in a physical altercation. Theo was injured after Todd shoved him, causing him to crash into a table. Bernie Winter heard the commotion and called the police, who arrived to investigate. Theo was taken to hospital, while Todd was arrested and taken to the police station.

During questioning, Todd did not disclose the abuse, even when asked if such incidents had occurred before. He began to hyperventilate and begged to leave, downplaying the situation. Theo, when questioned, claimed Todd was not guilty, but allowed the police to believe Todd was the abuser. Viewers were devastated to see Theo believed over the real victim.

Fans took to social media to praise the performances, particularly Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd. One viewer wrote: 'Todd's breaking my heart. Gareth Pierce is amazing.' Another said: 'Wow the episode today. Gareth Pierce was incredible, Todd is breaking my heart and the perspective of showing it all through cameras was amazing, really bold and imaginative.'

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
