Jack Stein's Festive Pop-Up Reimagines Christmas Dinner for Weight Loss
Jack Stein's Christmas pop-up for weight loss journeys

Celebrity chef Jack Stein is launching a unique free pop-up dining experience in London this weekend, specifically designed for the growing number of Britons on medical weight loss journeys.

The UK-first event, dubbed 'Season's Eatings', offers a completely reimagined three-course Christmas meal. It is a collaboration between Stein and CheqUp, a clinically supervised weight-management service.

A Reimagined Festive Feast

The pop-up, taking place at Icetank in London on November 14th and 15th, features a menu of portion-controlled dishes. These are crafted to nourish and satisfy individuals undergoing weight loss treatments or those with reduced appetites.

Starters include canapé-sized options like Cured Salmon with Yuzu Dressing and Wasabi Crumb. For the main course, guests will be served Poached Turkey Breast with Red Cabbage Purée, Charred Sprouts, Lemon-Sage Crumb, Roast Potatoes, and a Soy-Mustard Mushroom Gravy.

The traditional Christmas pudding is replaced with a Dark Chocolate Mousse and Burnt Orange Zest. Vegan alternatives are available for every course, including Dark Chocolate Clementine Bites with Pistachio and Sea Salt.

Addressing a Growing Need

The initiative arrives as new research reveals a significant shift in festive dining habits. A survey of 2,000 adults indicates that over 5.5 million Brits (11%) expect to host someone on weight loss medication this Christmas.

Furthermore, the study found that 64% of users are approaching their first Christmas whilst on the treatment. Of those on medication, 58% plan to modify their food and drink habits in December, with common changes including smaller portions, less alcohol, and lighter meals.

Jack Stein commented on the philosophy behind the menu: "Food is meant to bring people together, not divide them. The real challenge is making sure everyone feels part of the meal, whatever they eat."

He explained his approach focuses on maximising flavour without relying on heavy ingredients: "Using things like black vinegar, soy, miso, or citrus to add depth and balance without relying on butter or cream."

Inspiring Hosts Nationwide

The event aims not only to provide a supportive dining experience but also to inspire those hosting Christmas gatherings. Stein encourages a focus on flavour, texture, and balance rather than quantity.

"Anyone hosting this Christmas can take a similar approach," he said. "Your guests will still feel like they've had the full festive experience."

Toby Nicol, Chief Executive at CheqUp, highlighted the importance of the project: "Christmas is a time to celebrate, but it can also be a challenging period for anyone on a medical weight-loss journey. We're seeing a real shift in how people approach the festive season."

He added that Season's Eatings is designed to prove that festive joy and considered eating can coexist, offering practical and joyful ways for everyone to celebrate the season without compromising their health goals.
