RecipeTin Eats Founder Nagi Maehashi's Heartbreaking Update on Beloved Dog Dozer's Health
Nagi Maehashi's Dog Dozer in Intensive Care with Lung Infection

Nagi Maehashi, the founder of the popular RecipeTin Eats food blog, has shared a deeply emotional update concerning the health of her beloved golden retriever, Dozer. The 46-year-old culinary personality took to Instagram over the weekend to reveal that her 13-year-old canine companion is currently fighting a serious lung infection and has been in intensive care since Thursday.

A Devastating Diagnosis for a Faithful Friend

In a series of heartfelt posts, Maehashi disclosed the grave nature of Dozer's condition. She explained that the lung infection has unfortunately spread to both of his lungs. This development is particularly concerning given Dozer's age—he is nearly 14 years old—and his pre-existing medical issues, which include laryngeal paralysis and neurological degradation.

'Given his existing medical condition and age, I've been and will continue to be by his side every minute I can,' Maehashi wrote in a caption that has touched the hearts of her many followers.

An Emotional Vigil at the Veterinary Clinic

Maehashi shared poignant video clips from what appears to be a veterinary clinic reception area. One video shows her lying on the floor, tenderly attending to Dozer. Another moving clip reveals the poorly pooch fitted with a nasal cannula to assist with his breathing, accompanied by the caption, 'I love this dog so much.'

She has been preparing for an extended vigil, with one video showcasing a pre-packed lunch prepared by RecipeTin Eats head chef Jean-Baptiste Alexandre. The thoughtful meal featured prawns in brown butter, bread, whipped cream, and a creamy Velouté sauce.

Praise for Veterinary Staff and a Community's Support

Throughout her updates, Maehashi expressed immense gratitude for the veterinary team at SASH Vets in North Ryde. 'I can't speak highly enough of the women and men who work here, everyone from the vets to the nurses to the surgeons to reception,' she wrote. 'Whatever happens, I will be forever grateful.'

In a touching gesture, Chef Alexandre also baked a batch of brownies for the veterinary staff, accompanied by a note that read, 'Brownies made by JB please help yourself. Love, Dozer (and JB).'

The sad news prompted an immediate outpouring of support from friends, fellow food personalities, and followers. Celebrity foodie Poh Ling Yeow commented, 'Oh Nagi. Thinking of you during this heartbreaking time. Sending all my love.' Another follower echoed the sentiment of many, writing, 'This breaks my heart, sending so much love to you and beautiful Dozer.'

Dozer: More Than Just a Pet

Dozer is not merely a family pet; he holds the official title of Chief Taste Tester and serves as the beloved mascot for RecipeTin Eats. He has become a minor celebrity in his own right, frequently appearing in Maehashi's recipe videos and social media content. His fame extends to the literary world, as he is the star of his own children's book titled Row, Row, Row Your Boat (With Monsters).

Maehashi's final, poignant plea in her posts captures the depth of her bond with Dozer: 'Please be strong Dozer. I can't comprehend a world without you.' In a photo of her cuddling close to him, she simply captioned, 'You have to make it, Dozer. I'm not ready to say goodbye yet.'
