US skiing star Lindsey Vonn has provided a health update as she remains bed-bound following her latest surgical procedure on a broken leg. The American athlete, aged 41, underwent a fifth operation to address a complex tibia fracture, which occurred after a crash on February 8 during an attempt to compete in the women's downhill event at the Winter Olympics in Cortina, Italy.
Details of the Injury and Surgery
Vonn sustained the injury while skiing on a torn ACL, leading to the severe leg break. She returned to the United States for the recent surgery, which lasted over six hours. In a post on X, Vonn shared that the procedure went well, but she has been struggling with significant pain during her recovery.
Vonn's Statement on Recovery
"Just a quick update… my last surgery went well," Vonn wrote. "It took a little over 6 hours. I have been recovering from the surgery but pain has been hard to manage. Making slow progress but I hope I can be out of the hospital soon. Thank you all for the support."
The skiing champion is making gradual progress and expressed hope for an early discharge from the hospital. Further updates on her condition are expected as she continues her recovery journey.
