Gladiators star Legend, the fitness influencer and former athlete, has disclosed that his young son was urgently taken to hospital after breaking his leg during a family ski vacation in Switzerland. The incident occurred while the family was enjoying a holiday, but they decided to continue with their trip despite the setback.
Details of the Ski Trip Accident
Legend, whose real name is Matt Morsia and is 40 years old, shared the news on his Instagram account this past Saturday. He explained that his four-year-old son, Mauro, suffered a broken leg while skiing in Switzerland. The child was promptly rushed to a medical facility where his leg was placed in a cast to aid recovery.
Despite the accident, the family chose to remain on their holiday. Legend posted photographs showing himself and Mauro relaxing in a jacuzzi at their resort, indicating that they were making the best of the situation. In the caption accompanying the images, Legend wrote: 'Absolutely sick week of skiing in Switzerland ft. Mauro breaking his leg but taking it like an absolute champ.'
Support from Fellow Gladiators
Several of Legend's colleagues from the Gladiators television show expressed their sympathy and support in response to his social media post. Giant commented: 'Ah mate sending love,' while Nitro added: 'What a champ! Recover well.' Other cast members, including Comet and Steel, also sent encouraging messages, with Comet noting: 'Mauro is the real Ledge, get well soon!' and Steel writing: 'Big hugs. What a strong guy.'
Previous Health Scare for Mauro
This is not the first time Mauro has faced a serious health issue. In 2024, he was hospitalised after experiencing a seizure while in the bath. Legend's wife, Sarah, described finding their son 'jerking uncontrollably' with his face submerged in the water during the frightening episode.
Sarah quickly pulled Mauro from the bath and called for Matt's assistance before dialling for an ambulance. Medical professionals later diagnosed Mauro with febrile seizures, which were triggered by a case of chicken pox. Febrile seizures are convulsions that can occur in young children when they have a high fever and are generally not serious, but immediate medical attention is advised.
In a heartfelt post, Sarah shared details of the incident, emphasising the importance of constant supervision during bath time. She wrote: 'Last week Mauro suffered from something called febrile convulsions... Anyway the first seizure happened when he was in the bath and within moments he was face down under the water and jerking uncontrollably. Luckily I was sitting next to the bath and was able to pick him straight up and call Matt to help but it makes me feel sick to think of what might’ve happened.'
She added a cautionary note: 'I wouldn’t usually share stuff like this but it’s easy to quickly put the socks in the wash or grab some pyjamas while the kids are in the bath but basically don’t… defo not worth the risk!' Sarah also posted a picture of Mauro in a hospital bed during his recovery, along with holiday photos showing him back on his feet.
Background on Legend
Legend, known off-screen as Matt Morsia, is a former championship athlete who won a bronze medal in long and triple jump and a silver medal in powerlifting. He has always appreciated the 'showmanship' of competitive sports. After retiring from international competitions, he transitioned into a highly successful career as a fitness influencer and professional YouTuber, amassing over 355 million views on his content.
In 2020, he published his first book, titled 'The 24/7 Body.' His charismatic and confident personality has made him a standout on the Gladiators series, where he brings his power and strength to the challenges. In a statement about the show, Legend said: 'I've been training like a beast for the show but realistically I didn't need to. I could've spent the last two months eating doughnuts and playing Dungeons & Dragons and I'd still be better than everyone else. I'm called Legend for a reason. I can only apologise for the irreparable damage I'm about to do to the contenders. Actually, that's a lie, I'm not sorry at all. I'm actively looking forward to it.'
The family's resilience in the face of Mauro's recent accident highlights their positive outlook, as they continue to enjoy their Swiss holiday despite the challenges.
