Eamonn Holmes appeared in positive spirits as he enjoyed a refreshing day out at the park, despite recently disclosing that he cannot lift himself up without assistance from his carers. The 66-year-old television presenter, whose health declined sharply after dislocating his pelvis in 2021 and sustaining three slipped disks, is now largely immobile and depends on a wheelchair for mobility.
Health Struggles and Recovery Challenges
During his recovery from surgery, Eamonn suffered a significant fall at his former marital home, which he shared with ex-wife Ruth Langsford, resulting in a broken shoulder. This incident compounded his existing injuries, leading to his current state of limited mobility. On Tuesday, Eamonn shared a snapshot of himself in his car, captioning it with a note about enjoying the mild spring weather. He wrote, 'Just been through the Park a few times on the chair. Gorgeous Day.'
Emotional Revelations and Public Support
Eamonn received an outpouring of supportive messages from followers, who commented with phrases like 'Looking great Eamonn,' 'Handsome chap!', and 'Looking good Eamonn. It's a beautiful day here in Cambridgeshire.' This comes after he emotionally opened up about his health battle on the Session 7 podcast, stating, 'I'm sick. I'm in a wheelchair. That's been horrendous to deal with for two years.' He expressed concerns about his television career, noting, 'Certainly I don't think TV wants to know you when, I mean there's nothing you and I are talking and no one can there's anything wrong but I can't get up.'
Eamonn explained that he has carers 'throughout the day' and that once seated, he can manage most tasks independently. Reflecting on his situation, the former This Morning host emphasized, 'your health really is your wealth,' and acknowledged that society often struggles to 'deal with' people with disabilities. In a previous interview with the Sunday World, he detailed his daily reliance on carers, saying, 'I have to have carers now looking after me. Somebody dresses me in the morning, somebody undresses me at night, somebody gets my food for me.' He also mentioned undergoing experimental spinal injections in hopes of regaining function, describing this period as 'the toughest stage of my life ever.'
Ruth Langsford's Personal Journey
Meanwhile, Eamonn's ex-wife Ruth Langsford has recently revealed that she sought therapy following their separation in May 2024 after 14 years of marriage. Speaking to Rylan Clark on BBC Radio 2, Ruth shared, 'I've had counselling and it's the best thing I ever did.' She explained that a friend recommended seeing a counsellor, which initially she resisted, thinking, 'I don't need to see a counsellor, to tell me I'm sad.' However, she eventually agreed and found it transformative, stating, 'It's the best thing I ever did and I'm still doing it.'
Ruth highlighted the difference between friends and a counsellor, noting that while friends are supportive, a counsellor provides unbiased guidance. She recalled a key piece of advice from her therapist: 'Find your light,' which helped her channel feelings of anger and sadness into positive energy during a dark time. This personal revelation adds another layer to the ongoing narrative surrounding the couple's lives post-separation.
