Eamonn Holmes Health Battle: Needs Carers to Get Up

Television personality Eamonn Holmes has shared a deeply personal and "horrendous" health update, revealing he relies on carers throughout the day and is physically unable to get up from his chair without assistance. The 66-year-old presenter, who uses a wheelchair, opened up about his ongoing battle with chronic pain during a candid podcast appearance.

Chronic Health Struggles and Painful Diagnosis

Holmes has endured significant health challenges for several years, receiving a diagnosis of a dislocated pelvis that resulted in three slipped discs. His condition has led to multiple medical procedures, including spine and neck surgery in 2023, which unfortunately provided little relief from his persistent suffering.

Accidents and Setbacks During Recovery

During his recovery from initial surgery, the former This Morning host experienced a serious fall down the stairs at his Weybridge home, fracturing his shoulder in the process. This accident compounded his existing health issues and further complicated his mobility challenges.

Holmes has found walking increasingly difficult in recent years, with his condition becoming so severe that he even tumbled from his seat during a live GB News broadcast, highlighting the unpredictable nature of his physical limitations.

Daily Dependence on Carers

In his emotional disclosure on the Session 7 podcast, Holmes confessed: "I'm sick. I'm in a wheelchair. That's been horrendous to deal with for two years. I need help getting out of this chair. I have to have carers throughout the day but once I'm sitting down... I can do everything."

Perceptions of Disability in Television Industry

The veteran broadcaster expressed concerns about how the television industry views people with disabilities, stating: "Certainly I don't think TV wants to know you when, I mean there's nothing you and I are talking and no one can there's anything wrong but I can't get up."

Holmes made a moving admission about societal attitudes toward disability, acknowledging that many people find it challenging to "deal with" individuals with physical limitations, particularly regarding appropriate accommodations and accessibility.

Impact on Daily Life and Activities

The journalist revealed how his condition affects even simple pleasures, expressing his love for cinema while lamenting the limited seating options typically available to wheelchair users. He described being consistently presented with only two choices – either right at the front or at the very back of theaters.

Despite his physical challenges, Holmes maintains a positive outlook about what he can accomplish while seated, emphasizing that "once I'm sitting down... I can do everything," demonstrating his determination to remain active and engaged within his physical capabilities.
