Online counselling service BetterHelp has been praised by users for helping them find therapists they can connect with, as well as for its ease of use. The platform is currently offering a 20% discount on the first month's subscription to support those facing issues this winter.
According to mental health charity Mind, one in four people in England experience a mental health problem each year. Studies indicate that talking therapies can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. NHS data from August 2025 shows that 67.6% of referrals completing a course of talking therapy reported reliable improvement.
BetterHelp holds a 4.1 out of five rating on Trustpilot from over 9,000 reviews. One user said: 'I appreciate the BetterHelp app. It is supportive... the therapist connection was perfect.' Another added: 'Therapy sessions, classes, and Zoom meetings through BetterHelp have helped me immensely during a very stressful time in my life.'
The service matches users with a counsellor within 48 hours, offering weekly live video, phone, or chat sessions plus unlimited messaging. All counsellors have at least three years' experience and verified UK credentials. Users can switch therapists or cancel at any time.
Subscription pricing ranges from £45 to £70 per week (billed every four weeks), with the 20% discount reducing the first month to between £36 and £56 per week. Alternatives include Talkspace and the Headspace meditation app.
