Beloved Stag Beheaded in Co Dublin Park: Public Outrage Over 'Callous Killing'
Stag found beheaded at Co Dublin park in cruel killing

Beloved Stag Brutally Slaughtered in Dublin Park

A cherished stag has been found brutally slaughtered in County Dublin, sparking widespread horror and condemnation. The incident occurred after trespassers broke into Newbridge Demesne in Donabate overnight, where they killed and beheaded the eight-year-old animal.

The stag's decapitated body was discovered by park staff on the morning of Thursday, November 27, when they arrived to feed the herd of Irish Red Deer. Fingal County Council described the act as a 'callous killing,' confirming that intruders had forced their way into the park to commit the illegal act.

Public Outcry and Official Condemnation

The stag was a major public attraction, known for its magnificent antlers and gentle nature. It was one of only two stags in the herd and was adored by families who regularly visited the North County Dublin park.

The Mayor of Fingal, Tom O'Leary, expressed his profound shock, stating he had visited the park with his granddaughters who 'really enjoyed meeting the stag and deer.' He described it as a 'wonderful animal to behold close up' and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Ivan Smith, the Foreman of Works at Newbridge House and Traditional Farm, added: 'We are absolutely shocked by this incident. He was a lovely stag with a beautiful pair of antlers and was a big favourite with the public who walk through the park.'

Investigation Underway and Appeal for Information

An official investigation has been launched by An Garda Síochána and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

The council has emphasised that it is illegal to kill deer without a licence, and they hope the perpetrators will be brought to justice. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or email wildlifeenforcement@npws.gov.ie.
