A Georgia couple has been charged with animal cruelty after more than 250 animals were discovered living in squalid conditions at their home in Trenton. Authorities described the case as one of the worst instances of animal abuse and neglect they have ever encountered.
Nathaniel Levon Curington, 44, and Aimee Renee Curington, 45, were arrested on July 9 following an investigation into reports of animal abuse at their property on Sells Lane. The Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Law Enforcement Division removed 256 animals from the home, including approximately 240 dogs and 16 cats. Many of the animals were found in poor health, severely neglected, or dead.
Both individuals have been charged with seven counts of felony cruelty to animals. The case has been referred to the Dade County District Attorney’s Office, and additional charges are expected.
Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper condemned the neglect, stating, “I am confident these individuals will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.” He added that the agency is committed to cracking down on animal abuse in the state.
